The Universe is an experimentation engine. The variety of phenomena that emerge which all follow the same laws of physics is nearly infinite. Biological life is the same. There is variety in human life, in colors, shapes, sizes, senses they all survive to various degrees and some thrive. There is unfathomable amount of diversity in other species from viruses to bacterial to beetles to birds and animals and beyond. And there are so many more that have been lost, some documented, some not. Nature is experimenting with all sorts of combinations to see what survives and what doesn't. It is constantly recycling the material and creating mutations in every way possible. The purpose of an individual in a society is to express their uniqueness, conduct their own experiments, and contribute to the collective experiment. The definition of an individual and entity is complex, so is the concept of free will, but it seems rational to say that the purpose from society to the individual is to experiment, exercise their unique perspective and document their explorations, so others can learn and try new things of their own.
