The Office of Sponsored Programs uses several applications to manage University contracts, grants and monitor grant money expenditure. After doing some usability testing, it seemed that the staff had to switch between multiple applications frequently during their day to day work. I developed a Portal that pulls data from all the applications and gives speedy access to data. The goal was to have the staff calendar, their assignments, files, office activity displayed in an organized and aesthetic layout that enables them to plan their day efficiently.
The layout uses Mason’s green and gold theme. The staff page is the dashboard that gives all the information relevant to them. Each application has its own page that gives the activity for that application and has dynamic charts and graphs that give instant access to frequently generated reports. Additional enhancements included pulling data from Yahoo weather api, current date time display, changing themes based on time of day, modal windows and more.
